Nov. 21, 2006
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University junior middle blocker Colette Meek and redshirt freshman setter Marina Mercer headline a list of three Sun Devils selected to the Pacific-10 All-Academic volleyball team, along with four honorable mention selections. Meek and Mercer both earned First Team honors, while junior setter Rachel Mittelstaedt was named to the Second Team.
Meek (Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada) who was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team selection, earned Second Team Academic All-Pac-10 honors a year ago. She is second on the team averaging .91 blocks per game. She carries a 3.92 grade-point average as a psychology major with a minor in French.
Mercer (Chandler, Ariz.) leads the team with 1,038 assists in her first season of collegiate action. She sat out last year as a redshirt. She was the only redshirt freshman in the conference to earn All-Academic accolades, turning in a 4.0 grade-point average. Mittelstaedt (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned Second Team honors for the second straight year.
Junior Danielle Fernandes (Santa Monica, Calif.), junior Alison Lund (Bowie, Md.), senior Nicole Morton (Fallbrook, Calif.) and senior Nina Reeves (Gilbert, Ariz.) all earned honorable mentions for the second straight year.
This is the eighth straight year Arizona State has had a player named to the First Team. With 41 all-time All-Pac-10 Academic selections (first and second team), ASU continues to lead all Pac-10 schools since 1996.
