Volleyball Signs Jenna Hagglund To Letter Of Intent
Nov. 21, 2006
SEATTLE-- The second-ranked Washington volleyball team has signed 5-10 setter Jenna Hagglund (West Chester, Ohio) to a National Letter of Intent, sixth-year head coach Jim McLaughlin announced today.
'Jenna has all the qualities needed to be a great setter at the Division I level,' said McLaughlin. 'She has a very clean release and locates the ball well at the pins. She is a very intelligent player and has a very good feel for the game. As a result, she will be able to understand the priorities of our offense quickly and, as we train her, she will learn to make good choices in directing our offense. What impressed me most about her was her overall presence and her drive to improve. She is a mature individual who is willing to put in the work needed to become great. I am very excited about the prospect of coaching her over the next four years.'
Hagglund is a senior at Lakota West High School, where she led the Firebirds to back-to-back league championships and ninth place state finishes. Hagglund is a three-time first team All-Greater Miami Conference selection and two-time team captain. This fall, Hagglund was named the GMC Player of the Year, Cincinnati Player of the Year, and was a first team all-state selection.
Hagglund plays club volleyball for Team Z under coaches Ron Mahlerwein and Steve Aird. She has also been a member of the USA Youth and Junior National teams and was ranked the 29th best senior in the nation by PrepVolleyball.com.
'Washington had everything I was looking for in a college,' Hagglund said. 'The coaching staff in amazing, the volleyball program is awesome, and the girls are great. I loved everything about Washington and it was a perfect fit for me.
'They are the reigning national champions. They have such a great coach and the entire staff is top notch. They know so much about the game and are awesome teachers.'
Hagglund, who boasts a 3.78 grade-point average, plans to major in business with a minor in psychology.
