WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- WASHINGTON junior outside hitter Christal Morrison has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Year, USC setter Taylor Carico has been honored as the Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of the Year, and OREGON's Jim Moore has been named Pacific-10 Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Monday.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- CHRISTAL MORRISON, WASHINGTONMorrison, a three-time All-Pac-10 selection, becomes the second Washington player to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year. In fact, the Huskies have claimed the honor in back-to-back years as Morrison follows former Washington player Sanja Tomasevic as Pac-10 Player of the Year. Morrison, an outside hitter from Puyallup, Wash., was among the league statistical leaders in points (5.51 ppg/2nd), kills per game (4.80 kpg/2nd) and service aces (0.28 sapg/9th). She earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors three times during the season in helping the defending national champions post a 25-4 record overall and tie for second in the Pac-10 with a 15-3 league mark. She currently ranks fourth on the school's career kills list with 1,363 kills.

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR -- TAYLOR CARICO, USC Carico, a setter from Manhattan Beach, Calif., is the fourth USC player to earn Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors. She led USC to a fourth-place finish in the Pac-10 while averaging 12.71 assists per game. Under Carico, the Trojans hit .255 as a team and finished fourth in the Pac-10 with a 14-4 league record, and an overall record of 25-4. With 1,309 assists this season, Carico has established a USC freshman single-season record and its the sixth-best single-season total on USC's charts.

COACH OF THE YEAR -- JIM MOORE, OREGONJim Moore has been tabbed as the Pac-10 Coach of the Year after guiding Oregon to a tie for sixth in the Pac-10 race with a 7-11 league record, and a 17-11 record overall. In a rebuilding process that saw the Ducks win just three league matches over the previous five seasons, Moore, in just his second year, is taking Oregon to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1989. Under Moore, Oregon also achieved a ranking of No. 24 in the AVCA/CSTV Top 25 poll on Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. Moore has a career record of 381-185 (.673) in 18 seasons, including a record of 29-29 (.500) in two seasons at Oregon.
