UCLA Bruins (21-3-0, 8-1-0)
• For the fourth consecutive season, UCLA has earned a trip to the NCAA Division I Women's College Cup, following its 2-1 come-from-behind victory over 2005 NCAA champion Portland in Friday's quarterfinal action in Los Angeles ... Last season, the Bruins were defeated by the Pilots in the title game, 4-0, but they didn't let that memory fade away as the team took care of some unfinished business at Drake Stadium this go-around ... UCLA will take on top-seeded North Carolina in the national semifinals scheduled to take place Fri., Dec. 1 at 3:30 p.m. ET from SAS Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina ... The other portion of the bracket features No. 2 Florida State versus No. 1 Notre Dame ... The winners will face off on Sun., Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m. ET in the national championship game ... With just 5:07 on the clock in the first half, Portland got a quick strike to move ahead 1-0, but UCLA responded less than three minutes later when SO MF McCall Zerboni scored from six yards out off an original corner kick from JR F Danesha Adams ... SR D Bristyn Davis was also credited with an assist on the play ... Deadlocked at 1-all for much of the rest of the game, FR F Lauren Cheney finally put the Pilots away for good as she scored the game-winner off a penalty kick, her team-leading 19th goal of the season ... Cheney's score also marked her eighth game-winning goal of the year, a new UCLA freshman record ... JR GK Valerie Henderson was credited with two saves through 90 minutes played ... The Bruins move to 4-1 all-time against Portland, while maintaining their unblemished home record (16-0) this season ... The Bruins are unbeaten at home in their last 27 matches ... If any team is due for a national title, it is UCLA, which is the only team at this year's College Cup that has participated in the event the previous three years ... Prior to last season, UCLA was bested 4-3 on penalty kicks by Notre Dame in 2004's championship match and defeated 3-0 in the semifinals by North Carolina in 2003 ... Despite season-ending injuries to two of its top players, UCLA has used its depth and experience this season in capturing its fourth-straight Pac-10 title, while advancing to the NCAA College Cup for the fifth time in head coach Jillian Ellis' career (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) ... UCLA leads the Conference in shots (442), points (145), goals (53), goals per game (2.21), assists (39), assists per game (1.62), while ranking fourth in goals against average (0.70) ... Cheney also paces the Pac-10 in a plethora of offensive categories, including shots (94), shots per game (4.70), points (39), points per game (1.95) goals, (19) and goals per game (0.95) ... Adams, Cheney and FR D Lauren Wilmoth have all been honored as finalists for Soccer Buzz magazine's postseason honors ... Adams is up for Player of the Year, while Cheney and Wilmoth are in contention for Freshman of the Year.
