TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Danielle Orsillo scored 19 points and Briann January added 16 points and seven rebounds to help No. 14 Arizona State beat Boston University 75-53 on Friday night in the first round of the ASU Classic.
It was the first game for the Sun Devils (6-1) since starting forward Aubree Johnson's 15-year-old brother died in his sleep while in the U.S. Virgin Islands to see his sister play in a tournament. Arizona State and Rutgers canceled the championship game of the Paradise Jam after the death, which was blamed on an enlarged heart.
Johnson did not dress for Friday's game as Arizona State advanced to the championship game against the Eastern Michigan-Northern Arizona game.
Jesyka Burks-Wiley led Boston University (3-3) with 11 points. The Sun Devils held Terriers' leading scorer Katie Meinhardt to six points -- nine under her average.
January scored eight points in Arizona State's 12-0 start, and had 12 points and four rebounds as the Sun Devils built a 30-20 halftime lead.
Boston University closed to 54-42 with 8:19 to play, but Arizona State scored seven straight points and the Terriers never got closer than 16 the rest of the way.
