Gosper 50 Free Highlights USC Efforts In Georgia
Dec. 1, 2006
Junior Richard Gosper became the fourth fastest Trojan ever in the 50y free and anchored a first-place 400y medley relay to highlight USC's efforts on the first day of the 2006 Georgia Fall Invite in Athens, Ga., on Friday (Dec. 1).
Gosper's prelim swim in the 50y free of 19.85 (an NCAA consideration mark) made him the fourth fastest Trojan ever in the race, just ahead of senior teammate Sean Sussex (19.87). Joe Bottom holds the school record (19.70, set in 1977). Gosper's prelim race was the fastest by a Trojan since Gabe Woodward clocked a 19.84 at the 2001 Pac-10 Championships.
Gosper went on to win the final in the event in 19.91. Sussex, whose prelim time of 20.00 was also an NCAA `B' cut, took fourth in the final in 20.27.
The medley relay unit of seniors Viktor Bodrogi, Mihaly Flaskay, Sam Masson and Gosper won in an NCAA consideration time of 3:12.75. The 200y free relay squad of Gosper, Sussex, Masson and junior Tyler Wilson was second in 1:19.74, also an NCAA consideration mark.
Senior Larsen Jensen took second in the 500y free in 4:20.28, an NCAA consideration time. Sophomore Vanni Mangoni also posted a second in the 200y IM in 1:48.40, his best USC time ever and a NCAA `B' cut as well.
