Houston Swims Well in Texas, Making Two Finals for USC along with Teammate Soni

Sophomores Rebecca Soni and Katy Houston reached the finals of both the 400-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke and posted NCAA consideration times in each event to highlight the No. 9 USC women's swimming team during Friday's second day of the 2006 Texas Invitational at the Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas in Austin.

Junior Hayley McGregory also reached the finals of the women's 100-yard backstroke, taking sixth in an NCAA consideration time of 54.84 seconds.

Soni was fourth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:16.82, ahead of teammate Houston, who was fifth in 4:19.10. Stanford's Julia Smit won the race in 4:07.28. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Soni took fifth in 1:01.97 with Houston seventh in 1:02.46. Texas' Elizabeth Tinnon won the race in 59.96 seconds.

The Texas Invitational field includes No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 Florida, No. 9 USC, No. 11 Texas, No. 14 UCLA, No. 18 Wisconsin, No. 24 Arizona State, UNLV, Wyoming, TCU, UC Santa Barbara, Hawaii and Washington State.

In the women's 800-yard freestyle relay, USC's team of Whitney Stephenson, Kalyn Keller, Rachael Waller and Emily Goetsch finished sixth in 7:24.84. USC's team of Kristina Rigterink, Krissy Forelli, Brittany Allen and Whitney Hentzen took eighth in 7:26.19 in the race won by Stanford.

The meet concludes on Saturday with preliminaries at 10 a.m and finals at 6 p.m. (CST).
