Hongzhe Sun Wins Two Events At Texas Invitational

Austin, Tx - Two victories by Hongzhe Sun highlighted the Stanford men's swimming and diving performance during Saturday's night competition at the Texas Invitational.

Sun captured the 200 fly crown with a career-best 1:44.00. That time was an NCAA 'A' qualifier and seventh-best in school history. Sun also raced to victory in the 200 back with an NCAA 'A' qualifying time of 1:41.98.

The Cardinal also scored a victory in the 1650 free when Shaun Phillips posted a season-best and NCAA 'A' qualifying time of 14:51.77.

Other NCAA 'A' qualifying times were turned in by Nate Cass in the 200 breast (1:55.63). NCAA 'B' qualifying times were turned in by Ben Wildman-Tobriner in the 100 free (43.86), Jason Dunford in the 100 free (43.87), Alex Coville in the 100 free (44.59), Daniel Beal in the 200 fly (1:47.78), Andy Grant in the 200 back (1:45.96), Chris Ash in the 200 breast (1:58.01), and Keenan Newman in the 200 breast (1:59.58).

Stanford finished third among eleven teams. The Cardinal tallied 543 points. Arizona won the three-day meet with 787 points followed by runnerup Texas 689.
