No. 16 Cal Hammers Harvard, 96-54

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Ashley Walker had 17 points and seven rebounds to lift No. 16 California to a 96-54 victory over Harvard in the opener of the Contra Costa Times Classic on Saturday night.

Playing on its home court, Cal (5-1) scored the first eight points and never trailed the Crimson (0-6).

Emily Tay paced Harvard with 12 points.

Cal breezed despite losing Walker, their leading scorer, for the last 9:01 of the first half after she picked up her second personal foul. Walker, who had 11 of her points in the first half, came into the game averaging 18.0 points a game.

The Bears led 24-18 when Walker went to the bench and stretched the lead to 44-29 at halftime. Walker scored the first field goal of the second half and Cal went on a 20-0 run that stretched their lead to 73-36 lead with about 10 minutes.

The Bears will meet the winner of the second game Saturday between San Jose State and Arkansas State in the tournament final Sunday.
