Two Cardinal Wrestlers Place at Las Vegas Invitational

Primm, Nev. - The Cardinal wrestling team finished competition today at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in Primm, Nev. Two Stanford wrestlers places, with junior Josh Zupancic taking seventh and junior Tanner Gardner taking fourth in the two day tournament.
At 125 pounds, Gardner dropped his first match of the season in overtime to Angel Escobedo of Indiana, before earning a 7-2 decision over Mark Moos of Michigan to earn a place in the consolation semifinals. Gardner lost to Matt Eveleth of Penn by fall in the third place match to finish fourth.
At 157 pounds, Zupancic claimed a 3-2 decision over Joe Ellenberger of Nebraska Kearney to lock down a place at his third consecutive tournament. After dropping a decision to James Strouse of Hofstra, Zupancic battled back in the seventh place match with a 3-0 decision over Devin Mesanko of Columbia to capture seventh place.
At 141 pounds, Rafael Chavez came within one match of placing for the Cardinal, dropping an 8-3 decision to Michael keefe of Tennessee Chattanooga.
Tanner Gardner (1-2): lost to Angel Escobedo (Indiana), 4-2 (OT); dec. Mark Moos (Michigan), 7-2; fall to Matt Eveleth (Pennsylvania), 2:35.
Rafael Chavez (0-1): lost to Michael Keefe (Tennessee Chattanooga), 8-3.
Josh Zupancic (2-1): dec. Joe Ellenberger (Nebraska Kearney), 3-2; lost to James Strouse (Hofstra), 6-0; dec. Devin Mesanko (Columbia), 3-0.
