Vollmer, Silver Star in Georgia Fall Invite Day 3 Prelims

ATHENS, Ga. - California sophomore Dana Vollmer and junior teammate Emily Silver won races in this morning's preliminary races to earn No. 1 seeds in this afternoon's finals at the Georgia Fall Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium at the University of Georgia. Vollmer swam an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time of 1:58.14 as the Golden Bears finished 1-2-3 in the 200-yard butterfly prelim and Silver captured the 100-yard freestyle prelim in a time of 49.57 (NCAA B) for the Golden Bears, who trail the host Bulldogs, 745-705, for the overall lead in the three-day, six-team meet, which ends today.
Reilly also had a strong finish in the 100 free, taking third in 50.33 (NCAA B).
Cal put three Bears in the 200 backstroke final, as sophomore Lauren Rogers was fourth in 2:01.07 (NCAA B), senior Lauren Andrews was fifth in 2:01.28 (NCAA B) and freshman Heather White was seventh in a season-best time of 2:01.71 in the morning prelim.
There will also be three Bears in the 200 breaststroke final, as sophomore Jessica Hardy was second in 2:15.79 (NCAA B), freshman Alexandra Ellis was fifth in 2:18.00 and senior Annie Babicz was sixth in 2:18.63 in the prelim.
The last finals session of the meet, which will include the 1650 free, platform diving and 400-free relay, begins at 3 p.m. ET.
