Hicks Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Dec. 4, 2006
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington senior guard Cameo Hicks has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Hicks turned in a pair of all-around excellent performances in two tight road losses for the Huskies. At Kent State, Hicks set a career-high with 29 points while pulling down six rebounds, but the Huskies fell just short in overtime, 81-78. Hicks shot 10-of-17 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the contest.
Next time out, the Huskies nearly pulled a dramatic upset of No. 6 Ohio State, thanks in part to another 29-point outburst from Hicks. She also shared the ball to the tune of six assists, and was a presence on defense with three steals and a pair of blocks, while again shooting an efficient 11-of-19 from the field. The Huskies held the lead over the Buckeyes for 32 minutes of the game but ended up falling 84-79.
For the week, Hicks averaged 29.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and a block per game while shooting .583 from the field (21-of-36), .571 from three-point range (4-of-7) and .800 from the charity stripe (12-of-15).
Washington (3-4) returns home this week to face Texas A&M on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Nevada on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m.
