DiMartino, Cheney and Adams Named NSCAA/adidas All-Americans

Dec. 6, 2006

Los Angeles - UCLA women's soccer players Lauren Cheney, Christina DiMartino and Danesha Adams were recently named to the NSCAA/adidas Division I All-America team. Cheney and DiMartino were chosen first-team All-Americans, while Adams was a member of the third team.

Cheney, a freshman from Indianapolis, Ind., led the Pac-10 in scoring this season with 39 points (19g, 1a). She set UCLA freshman records for goals (19) and game-winning goals (8), scoring in 15 of 19 matches that she appeared in. The 2006 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and first-team all-conference selection, Cheney is the only freshman in UCLA history to earn first-team All-America honors.

DiMartino, a sophomore from Massapequa, NY, ranked third on the team in scoring this season with 17 points (5g, 7a). Her team-high seven assists ranked second in the Pac-10. A first-team All-Pac-10 selection, she scored the game-winning goal in the Bruins' 3-2 victory over Florida in the NCAA Round of 16.

Adams, a junior from Shaker Heights, Ohio, finished right behind Cheney in the Pac-10 scoring race, ending the season with 28 points (12g, 4a). She ranked second on the team with seven game-winning goals. A second-team All-American a year ago, she was named one of 15 semifinalists for this year's M.A.C Hermann Trophy, an award given to the top player in collegiate soccer. Like Cheney and DiMartino, she was also named a first-team All-Pac-10 selection.

All three players missed UCLA's first four matches of the season while serving as members of the U.S. Under-20 World Championship team.
