Stanford's Hongzhe Sun Named Pac-10 Men's Swimmer of the Month

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD's Hongzhe Sun has been named Pac-10 Men's Swimmer of the Month for November, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Sun won two individual events after posting NCAA qualifying times in both the 200 back (1:43.30) and 200 IM (1:46.55) at the Speedo Cup, Nov. 16-18, leading the second-ranked Cardinal to their fourth straight Speedo Cup title.
The Ewa Beach, Hawaii, native won both the 200 back and 200 IM for the third straight year. In addition to his individual titles, he swam the leadoff leg on the 400 medley relay team which broke a 14-year meet record with an NCAA qualifying time of 3:14.54. Sun also swam the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay, which placed second after posting a NCAA qualifying time of 1:28.88.
Since the Speedo Cup, Sun has improved both his 200 back and 200 IM times while competing at the Texas Invitiational on Nov. 30. During the meet, Sun chalked up a season-best and NCAA `A' qualifying time of 1:46.19 in the 200 IM to place second in the event, and clocked a time of 1:41.98 in the 200 back on Dec. 2.
This is the second monthly honor for Sun and Stanford's third Swimmer of the Month honor all-time.
