Vancouver, B.C. - Three current Husky rowers, who were part of Canada's 2006 World Rowing Under 23 Championship VIII, were honored this past weekend at Rowing Canada's 26th Annual Awards banquet.
Junior Rob Gibson (Kingston, Ont./Kingston K.C.V.I.) and sophomores Will Crothers (Kingston, Ont./Kingston K.C.V.I.) and Max Lang Lumby, B.C./Shawnigan Lake School) were all part of the Canadian men's varsity eight that rowed to a gold medal in Hazewinkel, Belgium last July at the World Under-23 Rowing Championships on the Bloso regatta course.
Crothers, who was in the stroke seat of the boat, helped Canada to overcome a two-second deficit at the halfway point and make a push at the end. Canada crossed the line in 5:30.72, besting the the Germans' time of 5:31.78
As Huskies, Crothers and Lang were members of the UW national champion freshman eight crew in 2006, while Gibson rowed in the Washington varsity eight that finished fifth at the IRA championships last year.
