ASU's Hastings Captures USA Cross Country National Title

Dec. 10, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Three athletes with ties to Arizona State University competed in the 2006 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Calif., Saturday with all three runners placing highly among the national results.

Current Sun Devil Amy Hastings, who won the 5,000m run at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last March, competed in the meet unattached and won the race, covering the 6,000m course in 19:59. Her 16-second margin of victory not only garnered her second career national title, it also kept her undefeated at the Golden Gate Park course. In her first race at the course, the 2004 Pac-10 Championships, Hastings won the meet to become the only Sun Devil to claim gold at the conference level in the history of the program.

In the men's open 10,000m run, Ryan Warrenburg and Roger Cahill both competed for club teams with each figuring into their respective team's scoring. Warrenburg placed 18th in the event in 31:10.00 while running for ZAP Fitness out of North Carolina while Cahill covered the course in 31:24.00 while racing for Run Flagstaff.

Warrenburg was the fifth-place finisher for ZAP Fitness as the team scored 52 points to win the team crown while Cahill was the third placer for Run Flagstaff, the fourth-place team that accumulated 160 points.
