Six Cardinal Players Named to Soccer Buzz All-Regional Teams
Dec. 12, 2006
Stanford, Calif. - Six members of the Cardinal women's soccer team were among the 63 players honored on one of the four Soccer Buzz All-West Region Teams. The annual postseason honors were announced by the magazine yesterday for the 11th time. Players were selected from the 47 schools that comprise the West Region.
Redshirt junior Rachel Buehler led the way for the Cardinal with a place on the First Team. Buehler led the Stanford defense to a conference-leading 15 shutouts in 2006 and helped the squad to a .55 goals-against average. The Del Mar, Calif. native, who was recently named a Second Team All-American, earned All-Regional honors for the first time in her career. She is the first Cardinal player to earn First Team honors since Nicole Barnhart earned the top honor in 2004.
Freshman Kelley O'Hara and senior Shari Summers, Stanford's two top scorers in 2006, were named to the All-West Region Second Team. O'Hara led the team with 20 points on the year, while Summers more than doubled her career scoring total with seven goals. O'Hara was also an All-West Freshman Team selection.
Sophomore Marisa Abegg, who was honored on the West Region Freshman Team last season, earned a place on the Third Team for 2006. Kristin Stannard and Alicia Jenkins were both selected to the Freshman Team.
