Dec. 13, 2006

OMAHA, NEB. - University of California junior outside hitter Angie Pressey has been named to the 2006 AVCA Division I All-America Second Team, it was announced today by The American Volleyball Coaches Association. Earlier, Pressey was selected to the Pacific All-Region Team, and was a first-team All-Pac-10 for the third season in a row - the first Cal player in school history to be first-team All-Pac-10 three straight years. Also an outstanding student, she was named CoSIDA District 8 third-team all-academic in 2006.

Pressey joins an elite group in Cal volleyball history. She is the fourth All-American all-time, and the third since Rich Feller became the Golden Bears' coach in 1999. Pressey joins Sylvie Monnett, who was an All-American from 1981-83; Mia Jerkov, an All-American in 2002 and 2003; and Camille Leffall, who earned All-America honors in 2004.

Pressey led the Bears, who this season finished 22-10 and advanced to the NCAA round of 16 for the second time in school history, with 487 kills and 4.39 kills per game. She was named tournament MVP of the Cal Molten Classic and the Golden Bear Invitational this season, and was the Aug. 28 Pac-10 Player of the Week. Pressey has recorded 1,262 career kills, third-most among current Pac-10 players, and the 11th player in Cal history to record over 1,000 kills. In the 2006 Pac-10 stat rankings, she ranks third in kills (487, 4.39pg) and fifth in points (551.0, 4.96pg) per game.
