Stanford Places Four On All-American Squad

Omaha, Neb. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today the 26th annual AVCA Division I All-America Teams for women's volleyball. Sophomores Foluke Akinradewo and Cynthia Barboza were named to the First Team, junior Bryn Kehoe was named to the Second Team, and senior Kristin Richards was a Third Team selection. The awards will be presented December 15, 2006 at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet at the Qwest Center Omaha.

Each of the three AVCA All-America Teams is comprised of 12 athletes. The AVCA Division I National Player of the Year will be announced on December 15 at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet.

The selections are made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee: chair -Pi'i Aiu, Colorado; Laura Farina, Auburn, Rich Feller, California; Barry Goldberg, American; Nancy Mueller, Illinois-Chicago; Jolene Nagel, Duke; Mark Rosen, Michigan; and Pat Stangle, Wyoming. The AVCA Awards Chair is New Hampshire Head Coach Jill Hirschinger.

A First Team selection, sophomore middle blocker Foluke Akinradewo is a two-time All-Pac-10 member and was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and an AVCA Second Team All-American last season. Heading into the national semifinals, Akinradewo leads the Cardinal and currently ranks second in the nation with a .439 hitting percentage. She also paces her squad with 129 blocks to average 1.42 blocks per game and ranks third for Stanford with 352 kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Cynthia Barboza was also tabbed a First Team member. Also a 2006 All-Pac-10 selection, Barboza currently leads the Cardinal with 441 total kills and averages 4.28 kills per game. She also leads the team and ranks first among Pac-10 Conference players with 45 service aces to average 0.44 aces per game. Barboza was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week on September 10 and was also honored with all-tournament honors at each of the Cardinal's three preseason tournaments.

Junior setter Bryn Kehoe was named an AVCA All-American for the second time in her career with a Second Team honor. Kehoe has tallied 1,368 assists this season, averaging 13.28 assists her game, to rank fourth in the Pac-10 Conference. She owns the single season assists record at Stanford with 1,637 assists in 2004 and ranks fourth all-time for the Cardinal with 4,109 assists as a junior. Also a 2006 All-Pac-10 selection, Kehoe ranks third on the squad with 80 blocks.

Senior outside hitter Kristin Richards earned her second AVCA All-America honor as she was named to the Third Team today. Richards was named to the All-Pac-10 team for the fourth-straight season in 2006. She owns the school record with 1,572 career digs, also ranking fifth all-time at Stanford with 1,796 career kills. Richards is currently second for the Cardinal this season with 374 kills to average 3.82 kills per game. She also ranks sixth all-time with 125 career aces, including 33 aces this season.

Stanford Women's Volleyball now boasts 57 All-American awards.
