Oregon State Overwhelms Mercer, 93-62

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) -- Marcel Jones scored 15 points and Sasa Cuic had 13 as Oregon State posted its highest point total in two years in a 93-62 win over Mercer on Thursday.
Roeland Schaftenaar added 12 points and Wesley Washington 11 for the Beavers (8-5), who scored 98 points against Colorado in December 2004.
Sam Dolan had 13 points and six rebounds for Mercer (5-5).
It was the third game in five days -- all at home -- for the Beavers, who lost 60-53 to LSU on Sunday and defeated Howard 84-67 on Tuesday.
Oregon State led 53-27 at halftime, and took its largest lead of the game, 90-55, on Schaftenaar's 3-pointer with 1:52 left.
Mercer scored four of the game's first six points, but Oregon State went on a 17-2 run to take control. The Beavers later scored 11 straight, capped by two Cuic free throws, to go ahead 32-11 with 8:12 left in the first half.
Oregon State shot 53 percent in the first half, and finished the night at 49 percent. The Beavers set season-highs for assists (22) and rebounds (47).
Calvin Henry added 12 points for the Bears, who entered the night on a four-game winning streak. James Florence, who had averaged almost 25 points per game during the winning streak, was held to 11.
This was the final nonconference game for Oregon State, which opens its Pacific-10 Conference schedule Dec. 30 at home against Oregon.
