Bruins Overpower Wolverines at Home, 92-55
Dec. 23, 2006
LOS ANGELES (AP) - No. 1 UCLA proved to be prepared for a highly regarded opponent. And Michigan showed it's not ready for prime time.
Josh Shipp scored 18 points, Arron Afflalo added 17, and the Bruins overpowered the previously once-beaten Wolverines 92-55 on Saturday.
Darren Collison added 15 points and eight assists and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute scored 13 points for the Bruins (11-0), who were in command from the opening tip.
The Bruins, who had struggled at times against several outmanned opponents, are off to their best start since the 1994-95 season, when they won their first 13 games en route to a 32-1 record and their most recent national championship.
Michigan (11-2) is off to its best start in 14 years, but the Wolverines were playing just their third road game. And they have beaten only two teams -- Davidson and Harvard -- with winning records.
Courtney Sims scored 13 points and Lester Abram added 11 for Michigan, which shot 46 percent (23-of-50) but committed a season-high 23 turnovers.
UCLA shot 33-of-56, including 11-of-20 from 3-point range, and outrebounded the Wolverines 28-24.
