Cougars Halted by Oregon, 66-55

Eugene, Ore. - Freshman Marisa Stotler led the Cougars with 14 points in a 66-55 losing decision, Saturday evening at McArthur Court.

The loss dropped the Cougars to 5-7 and 1-1 in the Pacific-10 Conference and Oregon improved to 8-3 and 1-1.

In addition to Stotler's double-digit performance, sophomore Amanda DuRocher was 4-of-8 from behind the three-point arc to finish the contest with 12 points, a season-high. Senior Kate Benz pulled down six rebounds and recorded six assists in the game.

WSU came out of halftime trailing 27-26 and tied the game at 27 after an Ebonee Coates' free-throw. Oregon regained the lead after an 8-0 run, which would put them ahead 35-27 with 16:48 left in the final 20 minutes. Stotler helped the Cougars pull within three-points after a turn around jumper at 49-46 with 7:32 remaining in regulation, but a 5-0 Duck run gave them a 54-46 lead with 5:16 left. A DuRocher three-pointer followed by a Dani Montgomery free-throw got the Cougars within five, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the game.

First half action had two posts showcasing their talents as WSU's Stotler and Oregon's Eleanor Haring each scored ten points leading their respective teams.

Oregon's Haring led all scores with 20 points and was supported by Tamika Nurse with 13 and Jessie Shetters with 11.

The Cougars return home to host two more conference games, Thursday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m., against UCLA and USC, Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. Both games will be played in Beasley Coliseum.
