Jan. 5, 2007
UCLA announced today that freshman basketball player Amy Horton has been granted a release in order to transfer to a school closer to her hometown of Tallapoosa, Ga. before the winter quarter begins at UCLA on Monday.
'Amy feels the need to be closer to home due to an illness in the family, and I've always felt that family is the number one priority,' said UCLA head coach Kathy Olivier. 'We hope that everything works out well for all of them.'
'Family is very important to me, and that's where I need to be right now in my life,' Horton said. 'I'm thankful to UCLA for giving me this opportunity, and I know that the relationships that I've built here will last forever.'
Horton, a guard/forward from Haralson County HS, played in 16 games for the Bruins, averaging 8.9 minutes, 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
