Swimming Opens The New Year On The Road

SEATTLE-- The University of Washington swimming teams return to action this week with a pair of road meets to open the new year. The Huskies will swim a dual meet at USC on Jan. 5 at 2 p.m., before taking part in the Ayres Hotel & Suites Invitationals hosted by UC Irvine, Jan. 6.

Washington will be competing for the first time in a month. The women are 1-1 in dual meet action this season while Friday's meet will mark the men's first dual meet of the season.

USC's men are ranked sixth nationally, while the women are ranked 11th.

The Ayres Hotel & Suites Invitationals will take place over two days but the Huskies will compete on just the first day. The Invitationals consist of a sprints meet, a distance meet, a relay meet and a diving meet to be held at Anteater Aquatics Complex. Washington will compete in both the sprints and distance meets.

A total of nine men's teams and 18 women's teams will compete at the event, including six Division I men's teams and 13 Division I women's teams.
