Women's Swimming Wins UCI Distance & Sprint Invitationals

IRVINE, Calif.-- The Washington women's swim team and the UC Irvine men's swim team won the UC Irvine/Ayres Hotel & Suites Distance and Sprint Invitationals Saturday at the Anteater Aquatics Complex. The UW women won the distance portion of the meet with 141 points, while they won the sprint portion with 475 points. The Washington men placed third in the distance invitational with 115 points and third in the sprint invitational with 397 points.
The Husky women won six individual events in the sprint meet and were led by Jessica Buchanan with three victories, including wins in the 50 (30.25), 100 (1:06.01) and 200 breaststroke (2:22.78).
The UW men did not win a sprint event but had three second place finishes. Henry Hudson placed second in the 200 freestyle (1:44.00), while Taylor Brugh placed second in the 50 freestyle (25.30) and Yonatan Cohen placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.51).
Jasmer and Jereme Barnett-Woods won events for UW in the distance events with Jasmer winning the 500 freestyle (5:01.80) and Barnett-Woods winning the 1650 freestyle (16:14.43).
Washington's men's team returns to action Jan. 13 when they travel to Provo, Utah to take on BYU.
