Jan. 10, 2007
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - The UCLA baseball team has been ranked No. 16 in the Rivals.com preseason top-25 poll, the website announced Wednesday. The announcement comes less than one week after Baseball America slotted the Bruins as the No. 13 team in its preseason top-25 poll.
UCLA will play 20 games against teams featured in the Rivals.com top-25 poll - including road trips to No. 5 Miami, No. 8 Arizona State and No. 11 Mississippi and home series versus No. 14 Oregon State and No. 25 Winthrop. The Bruins will also play a three-game series against No. 12 Cal State Fullerton (Friday road game, Saturday and Sunday home contests) as well as one home game and one road contest against No. 19 Pepperdine.
Rice has earned the top spot in the 'Rivals.com 2007 Preseason Baseball Top 25' as North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Miami round out the top five. The Pac-10 Conference places three teams in the preseason poll - UCLA, Arizona State and defending national champion Oregon State.
UCLA has also been ranked No. 26 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. This marks the Bruins' highest preseason selection by the publication since 2000, when UCLA entered the season ranked fourth.
The Bruins open the 2007 season Friday, Feb. 2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium against Winthrop, ranked 23rd by Baseball America and 25th by Rivals.com. Game time is 6 p.m.
