PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Ashley Walker scored 16 of her 20 points in the second half to help No. 22 California rally for a 55-48 victory over Washington State on Thursday night.
Walker also had nine rebounds for California (12-4, 3-3 Pac-10). Devanei Hampton added 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for the Bears, who snapped a 46-46 tie with a 9-0 run.
Marisa Stotler led Washington State (5-12, 1-6) with 12 points.
The Bears won despite 23 turnovers and shooting 39 percent from the field, including 29 percent in the first half. California trailed 20-17 at halftime, though the Cougars missed 16 of their first 19 shots.
Washington State shot 30 percent and was outrebounded 42-28. The Cougars, who have lost six straight, played their first game since second-leading scorer Nakejia Kelly was ruled academically ineligible.
The Bears improved to 4-3 since losing standout point guard Alexis Gray-Lawson with a season-ending knee injury.
The Cougars have finished last in the Pac-10 in six of the past seven seasons and have won just 25 conference games during a 10-year string of losing seasons.
