California Senior Standouts Selected For All-Star Games

BERKELEY - After its second 10-win season in three years and a convincing 45-10 victory over Texas A&M in the Holiday Bowl, California will send multiple seniors to postseason all-star games. Cornerback Daymeion Hughes and defensive tackle Brandon Mebane have been invited to the Under Armour Senior Bowl, defensive ends Abu Ma'afala and Nu'u Tafisi are scheduled to play in the Cornerstone Bancard Hula Bowl and linebacker Desmond Bishop has earned a slot in the Dell East-West Shrine Game.
In addition, sophomore DeSean Jackson will officially be presented with the inaugural Randy Moss Award as the top return man in the nation at halftime of the Intasport North-South College All-Star Game in Houston on Saturday. That game will be televised by ESPN2 beginning at 9 a.m. (Pacific). Jackson is scheduled to be interviewed on the sidelines during the third quarter of the game.
The 61st edition of the Cornerstone Bancard Hula Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, January 14 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. ESPN will televise the game beginning at 5:30 p.m. Pacific. The coaching staffs for the game will include Pat Hill (Fresno State), Mark Richt (Georgia), Rich Rodriguez (West Virginia), Art Briles (Houston), and Rubin Carter (Florida A&M).
The Dell East-West Shrine Game will be contested for the 82nd time on Saturday, January 20 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. ESPN2 will broadcast the game beginning at 4 p.m. Every year since 1925, the Shrine Game has been played to raise money and to help make the public aware of the expert orthopedic and burn care available, at NO cost, at all 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. The East team will be coached by Don Shula and the West team will be directed by Dan Reeves.
The 58th annual Under Armour Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, January 27 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will be televised by the NFL Network at 1 p.m. (Pacific). Coaching staffs from the National Football League's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and San Francisco 49ers will coach the two squads of top NFL draft prospects. Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden and his entire Bucs staff will coach the Senior Bowl's North team, while 49ers head coach Mike Nolan and his staff will handle coaching duties for the South squad.
