Jan. 16, 2007

STANFORD, Calif.- With frigid temperatures wreaking havoc on the tournament schedule, only one set of singles matches was played Sunday afternoon to close out the Freeman Invitational in Las Vegas.

Three of Stanford's four participants registered wins in their singles matches on Sunday. No. 8 Jessica Nguyen edged UCLA'a Ana Victoria Lind 6-4, 6-4, No. 39 Lindsay Burdette cruised past No. 99 Kady Pooler of Arizona State and Anne Yelsey returned to action with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Oregon's Carmen Seremata 6-4, 6-3.

No. 13 Celia Durkin was upset by Arizona State's Nadia Abdala 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.

Stanford did not compete on Saturday, but two doubles teams picked up wins on a weather-shortened Friday afternoon. Burdette and Nguyen defeated Florida's Megan Alexander and Anastasia Revzina 8-3, while Durkin and Yelsey routed Oregon's Monica Hoz de Villa and Anna Powaska 8-3.

Stanford returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 25, when it hosts UC Davis in the season opener at 1:30 p.m. The homestand concludes the following day with a dual against No. 21 Fresno State at 1:30 p.m.
