Dates Moved For USC's 2007 Football Games Against Arizona State And UCLA
Jan. 19, 2007
USC has adjusted the dates of two of its 2007 football games, as the contest at Arizona State has been moved to Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving) and the home game versus UCLA now will be played on Dec. 1.
The Arizona State game-USC's first Thanksgiving game since 1938-will kick off in Tempe at 6 p.m. MT (5 p.m. PT) and will be shown live nationally on ESPN. The UCLA game in the Coliseum will kick off at 1:30 p.m. PT and will be shown live nationally on ABC-TV.
Additionally, kickoff time for USC's Oct. 20 game at Notre Dame has been set for 3:30 p.m. EDT (12:30 p.m. PDT). The game will be shown live nationally on NBC-TV.
Kickoff times for USC's remaining contests will be announced in the future, once the televising networks make their selections.
USC has played 19 times on Thanksgiving Day, all during the first 50 years of its football existence (1889-91-97-98-99-1900-06-14-15-16-17-19-20-22-26-30-32-36-38). Only twice before have the Trojans played a Thanksgiving Day game away from the Southern California area (in 1914 against Oregon State in Tacoma, Wash., and in 1932 at Washington). Troy has posted a 10-6-3 record on Thanksgiving Day.
USC is coming off an 11-2 season in 2006, capped with a victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl and a No. 4 ranking in the polls. It marked Troy's fifth consecutive 11-win season and Top 4 finish, as the Trojans won an unprecedented fifth Pac-10 title in a row and appeared in an unprecedented fifth straight BCS bowl. USC has won 33 consecutive home games.
Eighteen starters (7 on offense, 10 on defense, 1 kicker) return from that 2006 team, including All-Pac-10 first team quarterback John David Booty, 2-time All-American offensive tackle Sam Baker, All-American defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis (the Pac-10 Morris Trophy winner), linebackers Brian Cushing (the Rose Bowl Defensive MVP) and Rey Maualuga (an All-Pac-10 first teamer) and defensive end Lawrence Jackson (20 career sacks). Head coach Pete Carroll, the nation's winningest active coach, sports a 65-12 (84.4%) record in his 6 years at USC.
The Trojans open their 2007 season with a Sept. 1 home contest against Idaho, a team they last played in 1929. In all, 7 of USC's 2007 opponents played in bowls this past season.
