Sun Devils fall to No. 12 Stanford in Season Opener on the Road.

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Sun Devils fell to No. 12 Stanford 193.075-197.125 in their opener on the road. Senior Lauren Powell compiled a 39.050 to finish third in her first all-around competition since 2005. April Boone (38.525) and Nicole Harris (37.725) also competed in the all-around. Stanford's Carly Janiga took first in the all-around with a score of 39.475 followed by Tabitha Yim's 39.425.
The Sun Devils got off to a shaky start on bars suffering a fall and falter. Compiling a 48.150, Powell led the team on the apparatus tying for fifth with Stanford's Kelly Fee with a score of 9.850. Fellow seniors Boone and Cassandra Jusino had solid bar routines, posting 9.750 and 9.700 respectively. Sophomore Ashley Toner scored a 9.550 in her Sun Devil debut on bars. Stanford scored a 49.150 on the apparatus, including a 10.000 by Elizabeth Tricase.
On vault, the Sun Devils posted a 48.525. Jusino tied for second with Stanford's Tabitha Yim with a score of 9.850. Tricase won the event with a score of 9.925. Powell recorded a 9.750 to place seventh and Nicole Harris placed eighth with a 9.725. Sophomores Ashlee Hinkle and Vanessa Rocca each scored a 9.600 to tie for ninth. With a score of 49.150, Stanford won the apparatus.
The Sun Devils took floor on the third rotation, scoring 48.800. Boone was the top Sun Devil finisher in the event by posting a 9.850 to tie for third with two Stanford gymnasts. Jusino and Harris followed with a pair of 9.775 to tie for sixth. Hinkle earned a 9.750 and Powell scored a 9.650. Stanford scored a 49.275 to win the event. Stanford's Carly Janiga took first on the floor after posting a 9.925.
The Sun Devils finished the evening on the beam, compiling a 47.600 after having to count a fall. Boone was again the top finish, placing third and scoring a 9.850. Harris scored a 9.775 to place sixth. Hinkle posted a 9.750 to place seventh followed by Powell who recorded a 9.650 to place 10th. Stanford scored a 49.125 to win the apparatus led by Yim who won the event with a 9.925.
The Sun Devils open the home portion of the 2007 season against Pac-10 foe UCLA on Friday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m. MT.
