Swimming Sweeps Denver

DENVER- The University of Washington dominated in the pool Friday to pull off a sweep over Denver at El Pomar Natatorium. The UW men won 155.5-138.5, while the Husky women won 179-113. The win marks the first of the season for Washington's men's team (1-3), while the women improve to 2-3 in the dual meet season.
Jasmer won the 500 yard freestyle (5:04.25) and 1000 freestyle (10:19.29) to again reign queen of the distance events. Seely swept the 50 (24.06) and 100 freestyle (52.59) events and Buchanan won both the 100 (1:05.73) and 200 breaststrokes (2:26.90).
Osborne won the 100 backstroke (52.91) and 100 butterfly (50.87), while Hudson won the 200 backstroke (1:53.25) and 200 IM (1:55.83). Spansail capped off Washington's double event winners, picking up victories in the 500 (4:35.34) and 1000 freestyle (9:37.59).
Washington's women also earned victories from Erin Campbell in the 100 butterfly (57.24), Blythe Murray in the 200 freestyle (1:53.51) and Jennifer Gong in the 200 IM (2:09.81). The 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams also won for the Purple and Gold. Mary Patterson teamed up with Buchanan, Campbell and Seely in the 400 MR (3:51.79), while Seely combined with Murray, Lindsey Sharp and Jasmer to win the 400 FR (3:31.14).
The Husky men picked up wins from Yonatan Cohen in the 100 breaststroke (58.07), Erez Fern in the 200 butterfly (1:52.95) and the 400 medley relay (3:25.91) comprised of Taylor Brugh, Cohen, Nio Micin and Osborne.
Washington returns to action next week for its only home meets of the season. The men will host Seattle U. and Simon Fraser on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m., and the women host Oregon State on Jan. 27 at 11 a.m.
