Our winter quarter has started so everybody is getting adjusted to classes and new schedules. Personally I am doing very well.
I sprained my ankle for the first time in my life in our game against Washington last weekend, and so I was not able to play against Washington State. After being on the road, it's always nice to come back to Maples and play.
Last week we hosted Oregon and Oregon State, wrapping up the first half of Pac-10 play. I always look forward to playing Oregon State. My teammate from high school, Mercedes Fox-Griffin, is the point guard for their team and it's always fun to see her.
It was a huge weekend for us because we are now 9-0 in the Pac-10 and that gives us good momentum coming into the second half. Our team keeps working hard to improve and we're never satisfied with how we are playing because we have such high expectations and aspirations.
I'm also real excited about how we are starting the Pac-10 because in my previous seasons at Stanford, we have started the conference 1-1. However, I don't necessarily equate winning with success. A little while ago someone asked me if I knew that we were ranked No. 9 (which I did not) and if I was excited about it. I thought about that and I realized that it's not about what our team is ranked, it's about how we feel as a team. We could be unranked but if the chemistry feels good and we're improving, then that's all that matters.
We're all excited for this week against Arizona and Arizona State and for the rest of the Pac-10 season.
