Tasha Schwikert Named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week

UCLA junior Tasha Schwikert has been named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for January 16-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Schwikert, hailing from Las Vegas, Nev., recorded the top two all-around scores in the nations this year, earning a 39.675 in a tri-meet with San Jose State and Cal State Fullerton on Fri., Jan. 19 and improving to a 39.700 against #8 Arizona on Sun., Jan. 21. Schwikert won the all-around and all four events at Cal State Fullerton. Scored a career-high tying (9.975) on vault at Fullerton, earning a (10.000) from one judge and (9.950) from the other. Schwikert also won the all-around, beam and floor, tied for first on vault and placed second on bars vs. Arizona.
Over the weekend Schwikert set season-bests on every event and the all-around with a (9.975) on vault, (9.900) on bars, (9.950) on beam, (9.950) on floor and 39.700 in the all-around. She helped the Bruins record season-best team totals in consecutive meets - 196.05 on Fri., Jan 19 and 196.75 on Sun., Jan 21. She also helped UCLA achieve season-bests on vault (49.4 on Fri.), bars (49.35 on Sun.), beam (49.2 on Sun.) and floor (49.35 on Sun.). All eight routines she competed this weekend scored 9.900 or higher - five 9.900s, two 9.950s and one 9.975.
UCLA is currently ranked sixth in the national standings. UCLA will host Arizona State next on Fri., Jan 26 at Pauley Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
