Tasha Schwikert Named Pac-10 Gymnast Of The Week

Walnut Creek, Calif. - For the second time in as many weeks, UCLA junior Tasha Schwikert has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week.
Schwikert, who hails from Las Vegas, Nev., recorded the top two all-around scores in the nation this year, earning a 39.675 in a tri-meet with San Jose State and Cal State Fullerton on Fri., Jan. 19 and improving to a 39.700 against #8 Arizona on Sun., Jan. 21. Schwikert won the all-around and all four events at Cal State Fullerton. She scored a career-high tying 9.975 on vault at Fullerton, earning a 10.000 from one judge and 9.950 from the other. Schwikert also won the all-around, beam and floor, tied for first on vault and placed second on bars vs. Arizona.
Over the weekend, Schwikert set season-bests on every event and the all-around with a 9.975 on vault, 9.900 on bars, 9.950 on beam, 9.950 on floor and 39.700 in the all-around. She helped the Bruins record season-best team totals in consecutive meets - 196.05 on Jan 19 and 196.75 on Jan 21. She also helped UCLA achieve season-bests on vault (49.4 on Jan. 19), bars (49.35 on Jan. 21), beam (49.2 on Jan. 21) and floor (49.35 on Jan. 21). All eight routines she competed this weekend scored 9.900 or higher - five 9.900s, two 9.950s and one 9.975.
UCLA is currently ranked sixth in the national standings. The Bruins will host Arizona State next on Fri., Jan 26 at Pauley Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
