Washington Renews Football Series Against Colorado
Jan. 25, 2007
SEATTLE - The University of Washington athletic department has reached an agreement to renew its football rivalry against the University of Colorado in a home-and-away series in the years 2015 and 2016, school officials from both institutions announced today.
Washington will travel to Boulder, Colo. for a game on Sept. 12, 2015 while Colorado will return the trip to Husky Stadium on Sept. 10, 2016.
'We are very pleased to renew this series with the University of Colorado,' said Todd Turner, UW's director of athletics. 'With this game, we are continuing our commitment to schedule nationally renowned programs that put the UW football program in the national spotlight. Our fans have always enjoyed these major rivalries especially with the University of Colorado and the other members of the Big 12 Conference.'
Washington and Colorado have met on 11 previous occasions, the last coming in 2000 when the ninth-ranked Huskies earned an emotional 17-10 victory over the Buffaloes at Folsom Field on the CU campus. Marques Tuiasosopo rallied the Huskies to two fourth-quarter touchdowns and the Washington defense held off Colorado in the final moments for the win, which gave UW a second-straight victory in the series that had seen the Buffaloes win the previous three meetings.
The series between the two teams is tied with five wins apiece and one tie since the first meeting in 1915. Nine of the meetings have occurred during the regular-season, while twice the two teams have squared-off in bowl games. In 1985, Washington culminated its season with a 20-17 victory over CU in the Freedom Bowl in Anaheim, Calif. In 1996, 13th-ranked Washington dropped its record to 9-3 on the season with a 33-21 loss to eighth-ranked Colorado in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego.
Washington is 21-19-2 against teams from the Big 12 Conference and has faced every institution in the league with the exception of the University of Missouri. Last season, the Huskies dropped a hard-fought 37-20 decision at 15th-ranked Oklahoma. The Sooners are scheduled to play at Husky Stadium on Sept. 20, 2008. Last summer UW announced a home-and-home series against the University of Nebraska, scheduled for 2010 and 2011.
