Cal Men in 1st Place after Day 1 at Dan DeHart Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - California junior David Torrence edged senior teammate Kevin Davis in the men's indoor 3000-meter run to lead the Golden Bears to first place after three events at the Dan DeHart Invitational, which opened Friday night at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Combined with Bears junior John Ludden's sixth-place finish in the weight throw, the Cal men scored 21 points, while the Cal women stand 13th with two points.

Torrence beat Davis by one hundredth of a second, 8:31.75-8:31.76, in the 3000, while Ludden had a throw of 57-03.50 (17.46 meters).

Sophomore Lollie Onipede notched both points for the Cal women on the day, when the Berkeley product took seventh place in the long jump with a mark of 18-09.00 (5.71).

The meet ends on Saturday.
