USC Men Post Third Straight Sweep, Top SDSU 7-0

Jan. 26, 2007

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The No. 43-ranked USC men's tennis team pinned up its third straight 7-0 victory with a sweep of No. 49 San Diego State on Friday afternoon at USC's Marks Stadium. Three doubles wins were followed by a string of straight-set decisions in singles, as Dejan Cvetkovic clinched the match with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Anthony Gomez at the No. 3 position just moments after Jamil Al-Agba won his No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over SDSU's Markus Dickhardt. The win improves the Trojans' dual match record to 3-0 on the season.

In doubles action, Adam Loucks / Garrett Snyder set the tone with a slick 8-1 win over J. Gomez/Sabo at the No. 3 position to open the match. At No. 2, Robert Farah / Kaes Van't Hof took care of Ceban/Timu with an 8-4 win to secure the doubles point for the Trojans. At the No. 1 doubles slot, Jamil Al-Agba / Dejan Cvetkovic dug out of a two-game hole and then broke SDSU's serve to go up 6-5. At 7-6, Cvetkovic held serve for the Trojans, as Al-Agba put away the match-winning point for an 8-6 decision that closed out a doubles sweep for the Trojans as the teams turned to singles play.

Garrett Snyder made short work of his No. 6 singles opponent Michael Beron, posting a 6-1, 6-3 win to get USC ahead 2-0 in the match. After that, A-Agba and Cvetkovic took care of their respective opponents, finishing their matches within a minute of each other to help secure the Trojan victory. #91 Freshman Jason McNaughton fought through a series of lengthy games in the second set, battling through a pair of deuces to win his match 6-2, 6-3 with one last break of SDSU's Robert Sabo at No. 5 singles.

Playing at No. 4, Robert Farah overcame a second-set slip to drill out a clean third set and tack up a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win over Juan Gomez. And at No. 2, USC's Kaes Van't Hof put the finishing touches on a comeback win over Achim Ceban with a 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-5 victory that rounded out the afternoon's action at Marks Stadium.

USC returns to action with its first Pac-10 matches of the season, hosting Stanford and California on Feb. 2 and 3, respectively. Both matches will be held at 1 p.m. at Marks Stadium.
