Jan. 29, 2007
SEATTLE - Washington will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day in conjunction with the Husky women's basketball game versus Arizona, Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. at Bank of America Arena. Saturday's festivities include the annual Husky Women's basketball silent auction beginning at 11 a.m., a special halftime presentation and much more.
All girls in attendance for the game with the Wildcats are encouraged to wear a uniform from a sports team they have played on and participate in a special procession onto the court at halftime.
The day's activities will tip-off with the annual auction beginning at 11 a.m. at the North Court in Bank of America Arena. Bidding for fans will close at the end of halftime with proceeds from the auction benefiting the Husky women's basketball program. Items up for bid include autographed sports memorabilia from Seattle PI Sports Stars of the Year Courtney Thompson (Husky volleyball) and Brandon Roy (Husky men's basketball), a signed copy of a poster and DVD from the 'Heart of the Game' - a movie documenting the Roosevelt High School girls basketball team, a private southern dinner with Seattle Storm head coach Anne Donovan, a fly fishing trip with UW associate head coach Mike Daugherty, a hot air balloon ride, Husky football tickets, a seat next to the voice of Husky women's basketball Steve Sandmeyer during a broadcast, many autographed items from current Husky women's players and much more.
In addition to the auction, fans will have a chance to engage in a variety of pre-game activities starting at noon on the concourse at Bank of America Arena including autograph signing with female UW student-athletes, face painting, sign making and more.
Immediately following the game, all children 12 years of age or younger are invited to shoot a free-throw on the court, while five Husky women's basketball players will also be signing autographs in the Autograph Zone.
A special two-for-one ticket offer will be available for Saturday. Fans can exchange a Pepsi can or bottle for a 2-for-1 ticket voucher. Look for the table with the Pepsi banner on the Southwest porch of Bank of America Arena to redeem your voucher.
Good seats are still available for Saturday. To buy tickets or for more information, visit GoHuskies.com, contact the Husky ticket office at 206-543-2200 or stop by the arena box office on game day.
