USC Hosts UCLA With Lexus Gauntlet Points At Stake

The No. 14 USC women's swimming and diving team wraps up Pac-10 action when it hosts crosstown rival No. 16 UCLA on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 1 p.m. at McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Women of Troy enter the meet 5-3 overall (3-3 in the Pac-10). It will mark the final home meet for seniors Kalyn Keller and Kristina Sieper.
LEXUS GAUNTLET - The winner of this weekend's dual meet will earn five points toward their school's Lexus Gauntlet total. Currently, UCLA holds a 35-12.5 lead, but there are still many of cross-town competitions left in the year. The Lexus Gauntlet is a season-long competition between USC and UCLA in all sports. Points are awarded to the winner of each Bruin-Trojan head-to-head contest throughout the year and the Lexus Gauntlet trophy is awarded to the school with the most points at year's end.
UCLA - The Bruins are 6-3 overall, 2-3 in the Pac-10 and were swept in their most recent action at Cal and Stanford. They are led by senior Katie Nelson, whose time of 16:26.55 is eighth fastest in the country this year. USC is 16-13 all-time against UCLA, including a 177-123 win last year in Westwood that ended a brief two-year losing streak to the Bruins. In fact, the Women of Troy have won 11 of the past 13 meetings against the Bruins.
TOP TIMES - Senior Kalyn Keller and sophomore Rebecca Soni remain the only Trojans to clock NCAA automatic times this year. Keller did it in the 500y free (4:43.58) at the Texas Invitational and Soni did it at the same meet in the 200y breast (2:09.39). Soni also recently posted an automatic in the 100y breast at Cal (1:01.37) two weeks ago ... Keller's 500y free time is fifth fastest in the nation according to CollegeSwimming.com. She has the 19th fastest time in the 200y fly (1:59.76) and 20th in the 1650y free (16:30.59) ... Soni's 200y breast is fastest in the country, her 100y time is eighth and her 4:16.82 in the 400y IM is 17th fastest ... Junior Hayley McGregory has a pair of NCAA consideration times in the 100y back (54.84) and the 200y back (1:57.95), which are 20th and 12th, respectively in the country ... Sophomore Kristen Lahey has NCAA consideration times in the 100y fly (54.03, 15th) and 100y back (54.94, 21st) ... Sophomore Katy Houston's NCAA consideration of 2:13.69 in the 200y breast is eighth fastest in the nation while her 2:01.12 in the 200y IM, also a `B' cut, is 20th fastest ... Junior Brittany Allen's 16:30.48 in the 1650y free is an NCAA consideration time and 19th best thus far.
Other NCAA consideration performances include Allen (500y free), junior Whitney Hentzen (500y free), freshman Kristina Rigterink (500y free, 400y IM), Houston (400y IM, 100y breast), junior Emily Goetsch (100y and 200y fly), junior Renee Viveros (200y fly), sophomore Missy McIntyre (100y breast), senior Kristina Sieper (100y and 200y breast), sophomore Rachael Waller (200y free) and freshman Krissy Forelli (200y free).
