Jan. 31, 2007
STANFORD, Calif.- No. 1 Stanford (1-0) prepares for a what should be an extremely challenging weekend, as several of the nation's top programs highlight the field at the National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisc.
Of course, everyone will be gunning for the Cardinal, which has captured the previous three tourney titles. Stanford blanked Texas 4-0 in last year's championship match after recording three shutout victories along the way.
And Stanford has extra incentive to fend off all challengers, as the Cardinal currently sports an incredible 87-match winning streak that spans three seasons.
The week's first challenger will be No. 17 Vanderbilt (2-2), which Stanford squares off against once competition opens on Thursday at 9 a.m. PST.
Also competing in the 16-team tournament are: No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 5 Miami, No. 6 Georgia Tech, No. 7 North Carolina, No. 8 Northwestern, No. 10 Baylor, No. 11 California, No. 12 VCU, No. 13 Pepperdine, No. 14 UCLA, No. 15 TCU, No. 18 Clemson, No. 37 BYU and host Wisconsin.
Stanford opened its season last week with a 7-0 win over UC Davis.
