No. 16 Swim & Dive Set For Lexus Gauntlet Showdown With USC on Saturday
Jan. 31, 2007
The No. 16-ranked UCLA swim and dive team is set for their final Pac-10 dual meet of the season, a Lexus Gauntlet showdown with USC on Saturday. The team will head to the campus of USC and the McDonald's Swim Stadium on February 3 with competition slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
The Women of Troy (5-3 overall, 3-3 Pac-10) hold a 14-13 all-time edge over the Bruins (6-3, 2-3 Pac-10) and UCLA will look to even the series on Saturday while picking up five points towards the Lexus Gauntlet trophy. Currently, UCLA holds a 35-12.5 lead in the year-long competition between the two schools.
'We are excited about the UCLA/USC dual meet as it brings out the best in the Bruins,' said Head Coach Cyndi Gallagher.
'Besides our senior class, our team is pretty young and inexperienced in comparison to USC. We will again count on the seniors to provide leadership in and out of the pool. They are very excited to swim against Southern Cal and win or lose, we alway have fun at this meet. However, I have told my team it is a lot more fun to win! Go Bruins!'
It will be the final dual meet for 10 seniors - Katie Arnold, Amanda Blong, Sara Clark, Jeana Fuccillo, Jane Imagane, Courtney Iversen, Luisa Los-Santos, Isabel Miesner, Katie Nelson and Amy Thurman, as well as team manager Kirill Fayerman.
After this Saturday's meet, the Bruins head into the post-season with the divers first to compete at the Pac-10 Championships February 9-11 in Federal Way, WA. The swimmers will then head to Long Beach February 14-17 for the remainder of the Pac-10 Championships.
