No. 11 California Falls To Top-Ranked Stanford

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 11 California women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season to No. 1 Stanford in the quarterfinals of the ITA Indoor Championships, Friday afternoon. The Cardinal defeated the Golden Bears by the score of 6-1.
No. 32 senior Zsuzsanna Fodor was the lone Cal player to pick up a singles victory. Fodor beat Stanford's Anne Yelsey, 6-1, 6-4. It was one of two wins on the day for Fodor. The second-ranked doubles team of Fodor and junior Susie Babos defeated Yelsey and Celia Durkin, 9-8. Babos and Fodor overcame an early deficit to get the win.
Stanford dominated the rest of the match, winning the doubles point and then going on to win five of the six singles matches. No. 14 freshman Nina Henkel's match against No. 13 Durkin went to three sets, but Durkin prevailed in the third set to win the match, 6-2, 6-0, 6-3.
Cal (4-1) concludes play in the Indoor Championships tomorrow when the Bears square off against North Carolina in the quarterfinalist consolation match at 3:30 CT.
