Feb. 3, 2007
LOS ANGELES - After getting swept by UCLA yesterday afternoon, things didn't get any better for the No. 18 California men's tennis team this afternoon against No. 43 USC. The Trojans swept the Golden Bears, 7-0, at Marks Stadium. The loss lowered Cal's record to 3-2.
USC won all three doubles matches to each the first point of the day. Sophomores Geoff Chizever and Eoin Heavey couldn't keep their momentum rolling after yesterday's doubles win, losing to the team of Robert Farah and Kaes Van't Hof, 8-2. On the No. 1 court, seniors Tyler Browne and John Pettit lost a close match to Jamil Al-Agba and Dejan Cvetkovic, 6-5 (6).
In singles, the Bears lost five of the six matches in straight sets. Junior No. 19 Pierre Mouillon was the lone Cal player to win a set. Mouillon won the first set, but was eventually defeated by Al-Agba, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0.
The Bears will look to get their fourth win of the season next Saturday, when they head to Tulsa, Okla. Cal will play Texas on Saturday and Tulsa on Sunday. Cal returns to Berkeley on Feb. 17, when it faces UC Santa Barbara at the Berkeley Tennis Club at 1 p.m.
