#5 Women's Gymnastics Injury Report
Feb. 7, 2007
Stanford, CA - Stanford Head Women's Gymnastics Coach Kristen Smyth announced today that junior co-Captains Liz Tricase and Tabitha Yim are both going to be held out of competition due to injuries for at least the next four weeks. Tricase has been diagnosed with a soft-tissue injury in her shoulder and Yim has a similar injury in her wrist. Both athletes are expected to recover fully in time for the end of this competitive season. 'While Liz and Tab certainly lend world-class talent to our lineups and their competitive contributions will be missed during this period, we are very excited about the opportunity to showcase and develop our depth as well. Both young women have evolved into outstanding leaders this season and I know they will contribute to their team's success as much through their leadership in spite of their inability to compete,' said Smyth. 'The remarkably steady performance that the team turned in this past weekend at Cal demonstrated again that we have the kind of depth and talent that can overcome the loss of key contributors and maintain a very high level of competition.' Freshman Carly Janiga earned Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors for her career-best effort on Sunday against Cal, but important additions of new routines and skills from juniors Lauren Elmore, Aimee Precourt, and Alex Pintchouk (also a career-best in the All Around last weekend) as well as the return to All Around competition of sophomores Nicole Ourada, Kelly Fee, and Heather Purnell will be critical to the Card's success for the next month. Stanford hosts #15 Oregon State, #11 Iowa State, and #39 San Jose State this Friday at 7:30 pm in Maples Pavilion in the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Event.
