Dwight Dumais Wins Gold At First Day Of Pac-10 Diving Championships

Stanford sophomore Dwight Dumais took the gold in the 1-meter event at the Pac-10 diving championships. He earned a total score of 357.95 to defeat Kenny Jenkins and Michael Hilde of USC who scored 350.75 and 339.65, respectively. Needing a score of 60.40 or better, Dumais scored a 67.50 on his final dive to pass two Trojans for the lead and the Pac-10 championship.

'I think it was a great competition having to dive against Kenny Jenkins and Michael Hilde,' commented Dumais. I just came, tried to relax and dive as best as I could and came out on top. It feels amazing.'

Fellow Cardinal divers senior Kevin McLean and junior Nathan Kim came in fifth and sixth with scores of 297.25 and 294.40, respectively.

The Stanford men return to action tomorrow, beginning with the 3-meter prelims from 2:15pm-3:30pm and then the 3-meter finals from 5:00pm-5:30pm.
