ASU Baseball Announces Youth Baseball League Promotion
Feb. 12, 2007
TEMPE, Ariz. - Sun Devil Baseball is reaching out to the state of Arizona youth baseball leagues for the 2007 season. Youth Baseball Leagues will be offered discounted tickets for games as well as pre-game sessions with Sun Devil baseball players to discuss baseball skills and the importance of not using tobacco. Leagues will also be offered the opportunity to 'Take The Field With The Sun Devils,' where youth teams dressed in their baseball uniforms will be permitted to run on the field with the Sun Devils for the national anthem. Additionally, there will be opportunities to throw out the first pitch and have a player serve as a junior P.A. announcer.
'Playing youth baseball was a special time in my life,' said 13th-year head coach Pat Murphy. 'The various youth baseball leagues really do a great job of teaching not only baseball skills but also sportsmanship and teamwork. Getting young baseball players in the state of Arizona involved with our program is very exciting to me -- these kids are the future of our program and I look forward to seeing a lot of these kids and coaches at our games this season.'
Red Mountain National Little League of Mesa has already reserved a game for the 2007 season after purchasing 700-plus tickets for a league night in 2006.
'Our kids, coaches and everyone involved had a very enjoyable time last year, and we have already reserved March 17 for this year,' said Killeen Sepulveda, who is on the board of directors with Red Mountain National Little League. 'Now with the additional incentives of meeting with some of the Sun Devil players and having our kids in uniform take the field with the Sun Devil team, I am sure that our turnout will be even stronger,'
