Moreno, Mozo Keep USC In Hunt At Northrop Grumman

Junior Paola Moreno turned in a par-71 and freshman Belen Mozo carded a 1-over 72 to pace the USC women's golf team on the second day of the 15-team 2007 Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Tuesday (Feb. 13) at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C.

No. 13 USC moved from fifth to fourth after a second day 302 (+18), fourth best on another clear, cold and windy day. Troy has a combined 606 (+38), 12 shots back of Pepperdine, which maintained its first-day lead. Arizona State, which led for much of the second afternoon, finished second with 598 while Florida has 603.

Moreno birdied three holes, including the 18th, for her 71 to give her a two-day 147 (+5), tying Mozo for fourth. Mozo improved upon her opening round 75 with a 72. Pepperdine's Jayvie Agojo retained her first-round lead at 142 (E).

Junior Dewi-Claire Schreefel posted a 78 for a combined 154, tied for 28th. Senior Veronica Felibert is tied for 45th after an 81 gave her a 158. Catalina Marin rounded out USC's fivesome and the senior finished her second day at 162, tied for 60th.

Junior Stephanie Hickerson, playing as an individual, carded a 74 for a two-day 159, tied for 51st. Freshman Caroline Kim, didn't play in the first round and had an 81 on Tuesday.

Play concludes Wednesday with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. (PST).
