Mozo Ties For 8th At Northrop Grumman

Belen Mozo, a spring semester freshman transfer playing in her first tournament as a Trojan, proved the steadiest hand in USC's first 2007 tournament, tying for eighth overall in the three-day event and finishing with a 74 on the final day of the 15-team Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Wednesday (Feb. 14) at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C.
No. 14 USC finished with a combined 908 (304-302-302, +56), tied for sixth with No. 26 Texas A&M. No. 8 Pepperdine took the team crown with an 883 (+30), nine strokes ahead of 2006 champion No. 2 Arizona State (892). No. 21 Florida was third (901) and was followed by No. 9 Oklahoma State (904), No. 13 Arizona (907) and USC and Texas A&M.
Mozo finished with a 221 (+8) after her final-round 74 (+3). Junior Paola Moreno, who spent much of the day tied with Mozo among the top 10, ended up tied for 16th with a 224 (+11) after a third-round 77. Pepperdine's Misun Cho won the individual title with a 218 (+5).
Junior Dewi-Claire Schreefel tied for 34th with a 231 (+18) after finishing play with a 77 (+6), senior Catalina Marin tied for 45th at 240 (+23) after a tourney-best 74 (+3) and senior Veronica Felibert tied for 59th with 240 (+27) after an 82 (+11).
Freshman Caroline Kim and junior Stephanie Hickerson played as individuals. Kim, who only played the second and third rounds, fired a 75 (+3) on Wednesday while Hickerson had an 84 (+13) and tied for 64th at 243 (+30).
