Cougars Tune-up for MPSF Champs at McDonald's Open Indoor Track Meet

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Washington State University track and field teams used Saturday's McDonald's Open Indoor meet at the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome to tune-up for next weekend's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
Former Cougar All-American sprinter Anthony Buchanan won the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.79 seconds, followed by current Cougs Jaycee Robertson (6.81) and Justin Woods (6.83). WSU multi-events specialists Rickey Moody and Kyle Schauble finished ninth and 10th, respectively, with times of 7.16 and 7.17.
Robertson won the 200m dash in a time of 21.35, just off his PR time of 21.34 run Friday night on the same track. WSU newcomer Sadiki James ran time of 7.08 in the 60m and 22.84 in the 200m.
Vic Asher won the shot put with a toss of 53-feet (16.15m) and finished seventh in the weight throw with a PR distance of 50-10 (15.49m), while Chase Mancuso took third place in the weight throw with a throw of 52-10 (16.10m). In the men's high jump, Moody cleared 6-2 for fourth and Schauble cleared 6-0 for seventh.
Cougar women finished first through fourth in the 200m dash with La Shawnda Porter-Red running a season-best time of 24.93, followed by Brandi Probasco-Canda (25.07), Selena Galaviz (PR 26.40), and Nicole McClendon (25.90). WSU's Lorraine King was sixth (25.95) and Jeanne Newman was ninth (26.40). Newman also finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 61.74.
In women's field events, McKenzie Garberg won the shot put with a toss of 46-4 3/4 (14.14m), as Jessica Zita threw 41-7 (5th) and Julie Pickler threw 37- 1/2 (13th). Jessica Fuller pole vaulted 10-6 (3.20m) for third and Natasha Montgomery cleared 4-8 1/4 (1.43m) to tie for seventh.
Next week the Cougars will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships, Feb. 23 and 24, at the Dempsey Indoor facility in Seattle.
